Who trains with kettlebells? The Russian Special Forces personnel owe much of their wiry strength, explosive agility, and never-quitting stamina to kettlebells. About Me

My name is Samantha Young.  I am a certified level II Kettlebell instructor under Pavel Tsatsouline.

As a trainer I believe in the importance of balancing strength and endurance with flexibility, stability and nutrition.  This philosophy is not uncommon, and in addition to the above, I use  efficiency  as a central  means to achieve ones fitness goals. For the past seven years I have used efficiency to forge techniques from a multitude of disciplines; and I believe that my expertise would be a natural addition to your training routine.

My unique set of skills were born out of a desire to always improve as an athlete. I have been a competitive diver for fifteen years and have also competed in Olympic Lifting and Kettlebells. Early in my diving career I learned that most training methods -in this country- are stifled by tradition, so I sought out alternate means to improve as a diver. I started Olympic lifting to increase my explosiveness and soon became the W.A state Olympic Lifting champion. I then discovered Kettlebells and found that I could achieve the same level of explosive strength without increasing my body mass.

Through my achievements in Kettlebells I was invited to study combat applications with the special forces and operations teams and was subsequently certified as a combat applications specialist (CAS). It was here that I really started seeing a relationship between efficiency of motion and of time. As workouts often had to be squeezed between dive practice and classes I began developing training techniques that were not only efficient in terms of movement and effectiveness but also time consumption. In short, desire and necessity have led to my ability to create highly efficient and unique workout programs that allow my clients to pursue and then obtain goal(s) in a timely manner.

I have always been passionate about sharing my knowledge with others to reach there fitness goals.  I apprenticed under Michael Reams, a mentor of mine and owner of Centerworks Northwest, beginning in 2003.  At age 18 I helped design and implement a cross training workshop for Cross Fit in Seattle.  Later that year, I was recruited by University of California at Berkeley (Cal) on a diving scholarship
